DYLAN ELISE

Stage Name: 'Dyls'
Age: 17
Male
From: Levin, Wellington, New Zealand
Tutor(s) Are: DVDs from Overseas at the moment & my Dad

I practice Daily

I Always wear ear protection when I practice.

I am working on Moeller Technique, Cross/polyrhythmic rhythms, learning to groove without the flashy stuff..

following band(s) Alive & Dangerous!

Types of music: Everything from jazz, blues, swing, bee bop & latin to funk, fusion, rock, hard rock. Fast paced, medium or slow.
Expectations: As far as my abilities will allow.
Advice To Other Drummers Would Be: Always wear ear protection. My Dad's friend has been drumming for 15+ years and has never played a gig but jams to his stereo a lot really loud and doesn't wear any ear protection. He's lost about 40% of his hearing on his snare drum ear.

It doesn't matter if you read, don't read, or don't want to read

drumming's not all about that... its about how you feel while your playing. If you want to be fast & loud, go for it! If you want to be like Dave Weckl then do it! Personally I love all types of drumming. You should see Wellington's Antony Donaldson (Avant Garde Jazz)...awesome....no time sigs just plays totally for the moment, doesn't plan it but lives it. Cool!

Comments: If you can, you should reserve some time during your practise where you just totally free flow all your chops, forget about strict rudiments, but intermingle them with everything, open up & go for it (not planned). Let the sound & feel take you to that other place where it all just feels right & grooves in your own opinion 'cos that's who's opinion really counts! You'll find the more times you do it, the closer you will get to finding & developing your own unique style.
